Although summer isn’t looking too sunny in Yorkshire right now (our FTF team are hopeful for more BBQ weather coming our way soon!), you may well be lucky enough to be jetting off for your summer holiday towards the sun and sea. With that in mind, we sat down with Jenny, the senior training and education manager for Heliocare, to find out more about some of the best Heliocare products to take on holiday.

We all know that we should be protecting our skin all year around – after all, those UV rays still penetrate cloud cover and reach your skin. But as Jenny reiterates, it’s especially important to protect our skin when we’re on holiday and the UV rays are a lot stronger than we usually experience in the UK.

Is Heliocare A Good Sunscreen?

Jenny’s Best Heliocare Sunscreens For Your Face

“The first product I’ve picked is Heliocare’s bestselling product, one of the icons of the range - Heliocare 360 Gel Oil-Free.” Jenny says. This is fantastic if you have slightly oily combination skin, or you want something that feels almost invisible and really lightweight on the skin.”

Jenny explains that the oil free formulation is non-comedogenic, so it won’t block your pores and make you break out.

“It feels really lightweight on your skin,” Jenny says, “so it’s ideal for hot summer days. And the Oil-Free also comes in tinted versions as well. These offer a combination of all that protection from Heliocare 360, as well as the coverage of a lightweight tinted moisturiser”. The tinted versions comes in two shades – beige and bronze – and they’re ideal to use on holiday when you’d like a much lighter skin coverage than your foundation would provide. They’d also be lovely for summer evenings out when you want your skin to feel fresh and light for holiday dinners or drinks.

“The next product I’d recommend for while you’re on holiday and which is also one of my favourites is the Heliocare 360 Water Gel.” Jenny says. “This has got a beautiful light hydrating formulation and I find it feels so lovely in the summer when you want something that is lightweight but is also going to give you amazing hydration.”

Jenny’s Best SPF For Your Body

“An essential product which you’ll will need for your holidays is the Heliocare 360 Invisible Spray.” Jenny says. “This is fantastic to use over your body to give your skin that best protection with SPF50, PA++++ rating, and all of that protection against UVA, UVB, visible light, and infrared-A.” Jenny explains that the great thing about the invisible spray is that it’s super lightweight and feels really hydrating on your skin. “As the name suggests, it’ s invisible on the skin,” Jenny says. “It’s also water resistant and can be applied to wet skin. It comes with a really handy aerosol spray that you can actually use upside down, too, so you can easily do your own back!”

How Much Sunscreen Should You Apply, And How Often Should You Re-Apply Sunscreen?

It can be a little confusing to know exactly how much sunscreen you need to apply to remain protected, but Jenny has made it super-easy to make sure you’re getting the right amount. “In order to get all of the protection from your Heliocare products, it’s so important that we use the correct amount of product. The recommended amount for your face and neck is two finger lengths,” Jenny says as she demonstrates using her index and middle fingers. “Because Heliocare products are so lightweight, this is going to absorb beautifully into the skin. Make sure that you apply this product all over the face, the eyes and down the neck.”

And when it comes to how often to re-apply? “So long as you’ve applied the correct amount in that first application, we would recommend that you reapply your Heliocare every two hours.” Jenny says. It’s also important to re-apply your SPF after swimming, sweating, or towelling.

Jenny’s Top Tip For Holiday Sun Protection

“My top tip while you’re on holiday is to start taking the Heliocare 360 Capsules.” Jenny says. “These contain all form of Fernblock, plus additional antioxidants that are skin specific. These are going to apply additional protection from within.”

Jenny explains that these capsules are recommended to be taken alongside your usual topical Heliocare suncreens to really give your skin a boost and help to slow down premature ageing. “They also ensure good skin health,” Jenny say, “they actually give your skin a better capacity to protect itself from the sun and helps you to prevent getting polymorphic light eruption which is a skin rash caused by irritation to the sun.”

The capsules should be taken once a day and will start working within 30 minutes. Just one capsule will work continuously for eight hours, so they’re ideal to take whenever you’re spending longer periods of time outside – particularly in the summer months or whilst you’re out enjoying your holiday.
